The City of Charleston’s livability and tourism department to facilitate annual Operation Moveout from July 31-August 5
July 16, 2024The City of Charleston will be conducting the annual Operation Moveout collection program to help remove trash and bulk items from crowded downtown streets with the high volume of lease turnover from college students at the end of July. The initiative will run from July 31st through August 5th, excluding Sunday, August 4th.
Tenants are asked to place trash items on their curbs by 7:00 a.m. for same-day pickup.
Placing Items on the curb:
- Only solid waste is to be place in the green collection bin
- Only recyclables are to be placed in the blue collection bin
- Large household items should be stacked neatly at the curb
- Small personal items and clothes should be in clear bags
- No electronic items are to be placed at the curb, and must be taken to the recycling center by the tenant
“Operation Move-out is an essential annual effort designed to enhance quality of life for Charleston residents and visitors alike,” said Dan Riccio, the city’s Chief of the Community Services Section. “By proactively managing the disposal of trash and household items during the end-of-July lease turnover, we’re able to prevent the accumulation of waste on our streets and sidewalks, and ensure a clean, safe and pleasant environment for all.”
The City urges tenants to donate gently used items to donation centers and charities.
