“The Fall of Savannah” Revolutionary War Lecture Set for January 13 at Laurens County Museum

January 6, 2026

The Laurens County Museum will continue its Revolutionary War Battle Lecture Series with “The Fall of Savannah & Georgia Battles” on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 7:00 pm.

The lecture will be presented by Durant Ashmore, a battleground preservationist, historian, and battlefield tour guide. Ashmore will discuss the importance of Revolutionary War battles fought in Georgia and the individuals involved in those campaigns, as well as how events in Georgia influenced the outcome of battles across South Carolina, including in the Laurens County area.

During the Revolutionary War, South Carolinians—many from this region—traveled throughout South Carolina, Georgia, and North Carolina to fight for either the Patriot or Loyalist cause. The lecture will examine how these interconnected movements and battles shaped the broader conflict and affected the war closer to home.

The program is open to the public. Admission is free for Laurens County Museum members and youth, with a suggested donation of $5 for others.

This lecture series is part of the museum’s preparation for the 250th anniversary of the United States, which will be commemorated locally on June 28, 2026. Plans include a Carolina Day celebration and the opening of a new major exhibit, Life & Liberty, focused on the Revolutionary War. Brochures for the Laurens County Revolutionary War Driving Tour, developed by the Laurens County Revolutionary War 250th Committee, are currently available at the museum.

The Laurens County Museum exhibit hall is free and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
