With the change in season it is often necessary to add a layer to keep warm in the mornings and evenings. Luckily vests, hats and scarves are trending for fall and come in so many options there is bound to be one perfectly suited to your style and budget.
Here are two weekend outfits that will keep you both warm and cool as the seasons change and embrace all three trends with an added bonus:
1. Vests. They come in all materials, colors and shapes with each one evoking a specific style. Here are two of my favorites for fall.
Leather biker vests are very popular and add a chic edge to your outfit, even if it is as basic as a t-shirt and pair of jeans. If traditional black is a bit too much you can always rock one in wine or blue leather. It will add edge and personality.
No gentleman’s wardrobe is complete without a fleece vest. Whether you are a true outdoorsman where it is function over form, or simply want to feel like one, a fleece vests blends the perfect amount of sport and elegance. These items look equally at home traipsing through the woods or toward your table for brunch.
2. Hats. Like vests they come in all shapes and sizes. Military is still a big trend for fall so if you want to give your fedora or ball cap a break try a military inspired hat. Another huge trend in hats this year is the beanie. Small or large be prepared to see them everywhere.
If you are self-conscious like me about hats making your head look big opt for a driving cap. They sit lower on your head and work with most face shapes, keeping you confidently on point for the season.
3. Scarves. Another accessory trend that has withstood the test of time to become a staple item in your closet. While you may not want to break out the wool and cashmere options just yet, chiffon, silk and jersey are perfectly acceptable for this time of year. They will provide some warmth, but definitely serve more as decoration and visual weight.
4. Jeans. A ‘must have’ for every wardrobe, you can now find jeans in brushed cotton, twill, tweed and flannel. They are perfect for adding personality and flair and just as comfortable as the originals. Expand your jean collection this season and try them in a new material. I promise they will ‘fall’ into your standard rotation.
With each new season comes an entirely new wardrobe, if you’re lucky, or at least an entirely new spin on it. Start filling in your fall wardrobe with vests, hats and scarves. Plus if you add them now you can wear them throughout fall and winter thus maximizing your cost per wear. It doesn’t get any better than that!
