The Fresh Market Debuts New Look at Forest Park

June 6, 2008

COLUMBIA, SC – June 6, 2008 – Over 300 new items, European fixtures, expanded organic offerings and more parking spaces are just a few of the features of The Fresh Market’s new Greenville, South Carolina, store which opened June 4.

Known for exceptional gourmet groceries and produce, The Fresh Market anchors the area’s newest upscale shopping destination, Forest Park, located near downtown at Pleasantburg and Antrim drives. Developed by Edens & Avant, this 53,300-square foot center soon will be home to other boutique retailers such as a wellness store, women’s apparel and accessories and a day spa. Dining options will range from casual sandwich and coffee shops to a full-service restaurant.

“Bringing the right collection of retailers to Forest Park that would compliment The Fresh Market as well as the architecture and overall feel of the center has been our focus,” said Lyle Darnall, Edens & Avant VP-Development. “We love the location and atmosphere at Forest Park and believe the community is going to be well-served by the offerings here.”

A brick façade, wrought-iron columns and plantation shutters are some of the design elements that differentiate this center. The new Fresh Market – the third developed by Edens & Avant in as many years and the fourth in the Company’s portfolio – provides customers with a remodeled, more spacious location highlighting an even wider variety of products.

“We have a long-standing relationship with The Fresh Market and share their excitement about this store and the excellent location,” added Darnall.

Boasting over 20,000 square feet of culinary delights, the store includes larger aisles, enhanced lighting, a deli island and larger floral, gift and bakery departments. Additionally, the expanded grocery selection includes more convenience items, allowing customers to complete their shopping at one store.

“The combination at Forest Park of a high-quality, specialty grocer in a boutique shopping setting solidifies the redevelopment and revitalization of this area,” remarked Nancy Whitworth, Director of Economic Development for the city of Greenville. “It is this type of commitment by companies like The Fresh Market and Edens & Avant that creates positive change for our communities and residents.”

Customers attending The Fresh Market’s grand opening sampled from the complimentary outdoor barbeque and other food sampling stations in the store. The first 1,000 customers received a free bag of coffee.
