The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society names Kimberly Reen as its 2024 Midlands Visionary of the Year

May 16, 2024

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) announced Kimberly Reen as the 2024 Midlands Visionary of the Year winner, she spearheaded an incredible 10-week campaign leading her team Hope Shines Bright to victory. Through her extraordinary efforts and dedication, Kimberly is helping LLS move closer to its vision of a world without blood cancer.

“Being part of LLS’s Visionaries of the Year has been an incredible experience and so rewarding,” said Kimberly. “My team, Hope Shines Bright, and I wanted to bring awareness and funding to the LLS mission and by doing so, together we are making our future brighter for all those impacted by blood cancer.”

Each candidate team chose an LLS Mission Pillar to represent and bring awareness to throughout their campaign. These three pillars, Research, Patient Support, and Advocacy, make up the very core of what LLS does.

The 2024 Mission Award recipients are:

  • Research Award: Kimberly Reen
  • Patient Support Award: Sierra Jenkins
  • Advocacy Award: Meyer Waites

Over the past three decades, LLS’s Visionaries of the Year philanthropic competition has brought together thousands of dedicated volunteers across the country from diverse backgrounds and experiences who are driven to reach their own personal best. However, it’s proven to be about much more than individuals and teams winning a competition — it is about exemplary leaders stepping up and championing others to raise critical funds that help LLS carry out its lifesaving mission.

Since its inception 75 years ago, LLS has invested more than $1.7 billion in groundbreaking research in search of cures. Despite progress, more than a third of blood cancer patients still do not survive five years after their diagnosis. Proceeds also enable LLS to carry out its holistic, 360-degree approach in communities by providing patients, survivors, families, and caregivers free assistance, support, and resources, and by advocating for policies that give access to better, more affordable cancer care.
