The Morning Rush – There’s A Big Difference Between Efficient And Lazy
January 22, 2015By Brian Maynor
Earlier we established the fact that I’m not a morning person. I don’t pop out of bed before my alarm with a smile on my face ready to greet the day. In fact I’m the polar opposite of that person, and I’m not alone.
Plenty of us essentially sleep walk to the shower or roll over and try our hardest to get ten more minutes of sleep making morning routines quite a challenge. If you can relate then I know the last thing your brain is focusing on is creating a cute outfit for the day. Here are some of the most common tips I’ve seen clients use to make finding an outfit in the morning quicker and easier. While I am all for ways to speed up the dressing process some of these are just lazy. See if you can tell the difference:
- Have your secret weapons. This is one of the most common tricks to getting dressed quickly. It is an outfit or handful of pieces that we commonly wear and know how to style without thinking. Think of it as dressing on autopilot. Not necessarily creative, but gets the job done.
- Recycling outfits. If you have a relaxed professional office you may be able to re-wear a weekend outfit Monday morning, but please make sure you at least refresh it in a steam cycle first. The last thing you want to do is carry remnants and odors of your adventures with you into the office.
- Double-duty PJs. Silk pants and boxy tops may be comfortable and passable as actual clothes, but blazers and pants can only do so much to cover and compensate. The only time I want to stay in my pajamas all day is when I’m sick, but I guess one bonus is you won’t have much to do when you’re ready for bed.
- Hanging clothes in outfits. This is certainly a convenient way to arrange your clothes and an extension of shopping in outfits, but it can also be very limiting. Wearing your pieces the same way every time can make them boring very quickly and doesn’t use them to their full potential. Instead try keeping five empty hangers at the front of your closet and over the weekend fill them with your workweek looks. It gives you ready-to-wear options and flexibility.
- Get dressed last. Outside of the practical benefits of avoiding breakfast mishaps, if you save getting dressed until the end of your morning routine you should be more alert and able to assess and create the perfect outfit for the day. Plus you never know where you’ll find inspiration.
Weekday mornings never seem long enough no matter how much time you have, but there are ways to make your routine easier and more streamline that won’t make you look or feel lazy.
