The Mystery of Indian Trader James Adair to Be Explored at Laurens County Museum on August 27

James Adair, an Indian trader and early settler known for his influential book “The History of the American Indian,” mysteriously vanished after its publication in 1775. The mystery of Adair’s disappearance and his legacy will be explored in an upcoming presentation at the Laurens County Museum.

Authors Lois and Shawn Potter from Virginia will be presenting their book, The Family of Indian Trader and Author James Adair, on Tuesday, August 27, at 7:00 p.m. at the Laurens County Museum, located at 116 South Public Square, Laurens, SC. The event promises to shed light on Adair’s contributions, including his detailed accounts of the Southeastern American Indians, and the many unanswered questions surrounding the Adair family.

The presentation is free for museum members and those 18 years old and under. A suggested donation of $5 is requested from others to support the museum’s continued educational and cultural programming.

The Laurens County Museum is a hub of local history, offering a variety of exhibits and programs. The exhibit hall is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with memberships and volunteer opportunities available for those interested in supporting the museum’s mission.
