The National Professional Fishing League’s 2024 season finale lands at Lake Murray

December 9, 2024

Dreher Island | December 11–13, 2024

The National Professional Fishing League’s (NPFL) 2024 season will conclude at Lake Murray on December 11–13, 2024. Known as the “Jewel of South Carolina,” Lake Murray offers anglers the perfect stage to compete in one of the most exciting finales in NPFL history. Hosted by the Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board (CCLMC), the event will launch and hold weigh-ins daily at Dreher Island State Park—fans are encouraged to attend and be part of the action.

Lake Murray is an angler’s paradise and promises thrilling competition with its clear waters, diverse structure, and robust largemouth bass population. This marks the fourth NPFL event in South Carolina, a state known for producing memorable tournaments. Past NPFL stops in the Palmetto State include Drew Six’s dominant win at Lake Hartwell in 2022, Patrick Walters’ commanding victory at Santee Cooper in 2023, and Mike Corbishley’s narrow triumph at Lake Hartwell earlier this year.

What to Expect at Lake Murray

Unlike many major tournaments that visit Lake Murray in spring or summer, this winter event presents unique challenges and opportunities for anglers. According to angler Joey Sabbaga, who has over 30 years of tournament experience on Lake Murray, the winter season offers some of the best fishing.

“The lake has been fishing exceptionally well,” Sabbaga noted. “With storms, high water, and vegetation growth improving conditions, anglers will have options to fish both shallow and deep. However, Lake Murray is unpredictable, and the cold fronts rolling through will keep everyone on their toes.” Local favorite Dustin Williamson echoed Sabbaga’s sentiments, adding, “This cold snap will push fish into winter patterns, giving anglers options from 50 feet to 2 feet. You can crank, fish shallow, or drop a minnow deep—there’s something for everyone.”

Both experts anticipate daily weights of 12 to 15 pounds to be common, with standout bags in the 17- to 19-pound range and the possibility of a 20-pound bag on one day. However, consistency across the three-day event will be critical to securing the win.
