The PREMIER 100 Summit to focus on recruiting and retaining minority male teachers

October 30, 2019

Richland School District Two is hosting the inaugural PREMIER 100 Summit on Wednesday, November 13, 2019, at the R2i2 Conference Center. The purpose of this free summit is to answer the call of strategically recruiting and retaining minority male teachers. It is no secret that right now, less than two percent of teachers nationwide are minority males, all while the percentage of students of color continues to rise across the country. There is staggering data addressing the immediate need for minority males serving in the classrooms as teachers, mentors and role models.

“Every banker, physician, and police officer was shaped by an educator. We create individuals who go out and change the world,” said Richland Two Superintendent Dr. Baron R. Davis. “That’s why representation — students having teachers, administrators and principals who look like them — is so important. The presence of these adults in the school setting can illuminate previously unseen paths to purpose.”

Community organizations such as local churches, fraternities, colleges and universities, etc. are invited to not only support our male teachers of color but to magnify and intensify the conversations necessary to make this effort a community call to action. Richland Two will provide transportation to and from the district for attending colleges and universities. This event is for professors and administrator but also importantly male education majors and those male students who may be undecided on the direction of their degree program.

Join us as we answer the call to support minority male teachers who serve as both a mirror and window to the possibilities of who our ever-growing, diverse student body can be.
