The Rally Foundation Awards MUSC $20,000 Childhood Cancer Research Grant

CHARLESTON, SC – Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research (Rally), a national non-profit organization, is proud to award a $20,000 Rally for Research Grant to The Medical University of South Carolina to support Dr. Jacqueline Kraveka and her research on “Targeting Dihydroceramide Desaturase in Neuroblastoma.” This grant is co-funded with Vs. Cancer Foundation, a non-profit organization that funds life-saving childhood cancer efforts
“Funds from this grant will be used to support neuroblastoma research. Neuroblastoma is one of the deadliest childhood cancers. Our research is focused on studying the biology of neuroblastoma and on developing novel treatments,” Dr. Kraveka said. “In particular, funds from this grant will be used to develop and test inhibitors to the dihydroceramide desaturase enzyme in neuroblastoma. It is our hope that this research will lead to new treatments for children with neuroblastoma. Support from the Rally Foundation Childhood Cancer Research and Vs. Cancer Foundation is critically important to support this research, which will benefit children with neuroblastoma. Thank you again for your generous support!”
Rally and its Medical Advisory Board, consisting of leading childhood cancer researchers from across the nation, award grants through a competitive peer review process assuring that the best research is funded. All grants are made in honor or memory of a Rally Kid, a child who has fought or is currently fighting cancer.

This grant is part of the $1.2 million Rally will be awarding to 34 hospitals across the country this year. Since its founding in 2005, Rally has distributed more than $5.25 million to more than 75 childhood cancer research projects nationwide, including basic science, fellowships and clinical trials.
