The Saluda River Greenway Grand Opening

August 31, 2021

On Monday, August 30, 2021, the Midlands celebrated the official opening of the Saluda River Greenway.

Part of the Saluda Riverwalk, this three mile section of the trail was funded in part by the Richland County Penny Tax program, 1% of which funds greenways. The Greenway is a combination of paved paths as well as a raised boardwalk that is constructed on top of the river.

The parking lot is now officially opened and you can access the trail from 650 Candi Lane. At one end of the trail you can cross a bridge onto Boyd Island and see spectacular views of downtown Columbia.

There are future plans to continue the Greenway across the Broad River and to link to the trail along the Canal. When this is completed, people will be able to walk from downtown to the Riverbanks Zoo.
