A native of Dalzell, South Carolina, Ackerman began her musical journey at the age of ten, studying harp under Nina Brooks in Columbia and later with Joyce Fankhouser in Greenville. What began as a childhood fascination quickly became a lifelong calling. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Presbyterian College and a Master of Music Education from North Greenville University, focusing her studies on vocal and piano performance.

With more than 25 years of professional experience, Ackerman has served as a teacher, choir director, performer, and mentor—always guided by her belief that music holds the power to uplift, heal, and connect.

Beyond performing, Ackerman serves as Director of Choral Activities at Presbyterian College and is the founder and director of The Sounds of Grace, a nonprofit organization that brings music into hospitals, hospices, and special-needs settings.
