The True Spirit of Christmas Shines on Woodlawn Drive

November 16, 2025

The true spirit of Christmas is alive and well in Laurens, thanks to two young neighbors whose holiday kindness made a big impact.

On Woodlawn Drive, friends Whit Buhrmaster and Ford Hocker set up a cheerful Christmas collection station in front of one of their homes. Offering free hot chocolate and cookies to anyone who stopped by, the boys asked only for a new, unwrapped toy in return—each gift destined for the American Legion’s Christmas outreach for local children.

Judging by the overflowing box of toys they collected, their venture was a big success. Neighbors showed up with gifts, smiles, and words of encouragement, inspired by Whit and Ford’s determination to spread holiday cheer.

Supported by their parents, the boys led the effort with enthusiasm, kindness, and a genuine desire to help others.

Kevin Farnsworth, Commander of American Legion Post 25, praised their efforts, saying:
“These boys didn’t just collect toys—they showed what community really means. Their generosity will make a real difference for families this Christmas.”

Thanks to Whit and Ford, Christmas will be a little brighter for children across Laurens. And their kindness proves something important: the future of this community is shining bright.
