The Woodlands at Furman goes global for CCRC Week

GREENVILLE, SC –  International flair comes to the Woodlands next week in their annual celebration of Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC) Week.

This year’s theme will be Festival of Nations, celebrating the diversity of the Upstate and the Woodlands community with food, music, and culture.

Each day’s theme and events are as follows:

Monday: Asia. Dr. Shusuke Yagi, Furman Professor of Asian Studies, will give a talk, followed by Tai Chi class taught by Keith Davis

Tuesday: Ireland. The Carolina Ceili Band, a traditional Irish band, will perform familiar pub songs, classic Irish ballads, and some original music.

Wednesday: Middle East. Lubna Salah with the International Center for the Upstate will be speaking. Camels will also be available for petting, riding, and feeding.

Thursday: India. Lisa Zahiya Studio will present belly dancing, followed by a Taste of India.

Friday: Africa. Jeremiah Taylor will lead a discussion on life in Africa, followed by the Imani Dancers African Dance Troupe.

All events will be at 3 p.m., and all are open to the media.

This week of celebration is one in a series of initiatives aimed at connecting the Woodlands at Furman with the surrounding community.
