There’s No Better Time Than Now To Hit Your Reset Button
January 11, 2017By Brian Maynor
As I sit overlooking the ocean, I can’t help but feel rebooted.
Just like computers, we get so use to multitasking; running in multiple directions at once and pushing ourselves to max capacity it’s no wonder we sometimes get locked up. The stress, anxiety and uncertainty of life can reek havoc on us mentally, physically and emotionally, causing us to feel disconnected from ourselves and others.
Here are some of the most common indicators that you’re in need of a reboot and some easy ways to do it:
1. Irritable, moody or just plain rude. If you find your fuse is shorter than normal; you tend to be moody or your default response sounds snarky you’re about to reach your breaking point and it’s time to reboot.
2. Get out of town. One of the most effective ways to reboot it to get out of your usual surroundings. There’s just something healing about being outside your normal routines, environments and stimulants. It literally gives you a break from the everyday stresses you experience.
3. Set your intentions. Taking time to reflect on your past week and set goals for the upcoming one is not only therapeutic it helps keep you focused and on track. The easiest way to establish this routine is to do it at the same time every week.
4. Find some quiet time. Whether it’s a yoga class, meditation or just listening to your favorite music, carving out time just for you is another way to reset. The great thing about this technique is that it doesn’t take a lot of time to reap the benefits. As little as 15 minutes a day are all you need.
5. Eliminate anything that doesn’t make you happy. Life’s too short to spend it anxious or worried. While life and responsibilities don’t allow us to eliminate everything that doesn’t bring us joy, you’ll be surprised at just how much we do out of sense of self-imposed obligation when we stop and examine our routines. This is a great exercise to do during meditation or intention setting.
We all have busy lives and stuff we have to deal with, but in that process it’s easy to lose ourselves. So the next time you feel an impending meltdown, or snap at a loved one take them as clues it’s time for you to reboot.
