There’s a New Blog in Town

Last week’s blog was all about choosing your company wisely. While sometimes this can mean a radical paring down, sometimes we’re presented with the exact opposite.
Recently, I was asked to join a group of thrifting & DIY enthusiasts as a contributor for a blog called The Good Life. Just as with my personal friendships, I’m picky about what communities I join in my writing life. We all want to be in a community, but if you join the wrong one you can quickly find your energy zapped and your creativity stifled.
What I’m saying is, I don’t just join every blogging community I’m invited to. You are who you hang with, so you’ve gotta pick the right people to spend your time with. But this one was noticeably special. I liked that Goodwill had found some of the best and brightest writers in South Carolina to be a part of something inspirational and cohesive that is also close to my heart….living sustainably. I liked the diversity of this community. I liked the idea of being among people I could learn from and grow with. I liked that the blog is owned by Goodwill of the Upstate & Midlands, an organization I admire and respect.
So I said yes.
This was a month ago. In that month, The Good Life has evolved into something really special. I feel inspired by my fellow bloggers to take more creative risks, and to celebrate their successes. As a DIY blogger, it’s sometimes really easy to feel like you’re creating in a vacuum. It’s nice to not feel that way.
It’s also nice to know that I’m part of a group that’s creating something helpful for people in my community.
