Third year in a row: Clemson-Carolina rivalry game to be Santee Cooper Green-Powered

MONCKS CORNER, SC – November 14, 2012 – Whether they chantC-L-E-M-S-O-N or GAME-COCK, fans at this year’s Clemson-Carolina rivalrygame will be able to chant one cheer together: G-R-E-E-N.

That’sbecause for the third year in a row, the famed University of SouthCarolina and Clemson University football game will be powered by 100percent Santee Cooper Green Power.

Clemson University has againteamed up with Santee Cooper and Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative toensure that all the electricity needs of the Nov. 24 football game atMemorial Stadium will be met with Green Power. Santee Cooper produces 28megawatts of Green Power from clean, renewable, South Carolinaresources, including landfill biogas, solar and wind power.

“Clemsonis proud to continue the tradition we began by hosting this game, whichputs a spotlight on green power,” said Clemson President Jim Barker.  “It is a public expression of our University commitment to innovationand a sustainable energy future.”

“These two schools sport spirited rivalries,but they are united in their efforts to promote sustainability,” saidLonnie Carter, president and CEO of Santee Cooper. “USC powered thisgame with Green Power at Williams-Brice Stadium last year, and Clemsonstarted off this green tradition in 2010. I cheer their commitment toleading by example, and note that all revenues from this and all SanteeCooper Green Power sales are reinvested in developing new renewableenergy for South Carolina.”
