November 12, 2024

Thornwell Charter School (TCS), part of the Charter Institute at Erskine’s statewide district, is proud to announce a series of prestigious district and state awards earned for academic excellence based on the 2023-2024 South Carolina state testing results. Both TCS Elementary and TCS Middle School have been recognized for their exceptional performance and growth, making them leaders in Laurens County and across South Carolina.

Both TCS Elementary and TCS Middle School received a “Good” rating on the 2023-2024 South Carolina School Report Card, with the highest number of overall points earned out of all schools in Laurens County. This achievement highlights the school’s commitment to academic excellence, personalized learning, and a behavioral model that is committed to teaching the skills students need to be successful in the classroom and in life.

At the recent Charter Institute at Erskine Academic Showcase, TCS Middle School was honored with the Gold School of Distinction Award. This distinction is given to schools that surpass local school district performance and demonstrate above-average academic growth. TCS Middle School’s recognition underscores its dedication to improving student outcomes and creating a positive and enriching learning environment.

In addition to the Gold School of Distinction Award, both TCS Elementary and TCS Middle School received the Palmetto Silver Award from the South Carolina Department of Education. This prestigious award is given to schools receiving a minimum rating of “good” on three out of four indicators and no rating lower than average on the fourth indicator on the state report card.

TCS Middle School also received the Culture of Excellence Award from the Charter Institute at Erskine, a testament to the school’s outstanding climate and student engagement. This award is based on the school’s excellent rating on the climate portion of the South Carolina School Report Card, highlighting the positive and supportive environment created for students, staff, and the community.

While TCS does not currently receive a high school report card, it will begin reporting next year as the first high school cohort reaches graduation. This marks an important milestone for the school as it continues to grow and expand its academic offerings.
