Three at Tri-County honored as Educators of the Year

Three faculty/staff members have been honored as Tri- County Technical College's Educators of the Year and will be recognized at the South Carolina Technical Education Association (SCTEA) meeting in February.

Tasheka Johnson, director of the Advising and Academic Support Network and President’s Advisory Council member, is the College’s outstanding administrator; Trent Hulehan, program director for Automotive Technology, is the outstanding instructor; and Lori Morrissette, manager for Student Development and Involvement Programs, is the outstanding staff nominee.

SCTEA is a professional association of technical education personnel and others interested in post-secondary technical education. The group will be recognized at an awards luncheon at the SCTEA conference February 13 – 15.

Since joining the College in November 2008, Johnson has worked in all
areas of Student Support Services. She has been in her current position since July 2018 and is responsible for the assessment, design, redesign, and implementation of the academic advising training curriculum.

She also develops and maintains online training materials and resources accessible by faculty and staff and collaborates with faculty and staff to create and strengthen partnerships to better serve students.

Other positions she has held at Tri-County include interim advising director – curriculum and instruction, November 2017 – July 2018; learning support coordinator – Comprehensive Studies department, May 2016 – July 2018; student success coach – orientation and advising, June 2013 – May 2016; and enrollment counselor/recruitment coordinator – admissions, September 2011 – June 2013.

She joined the College as a tutor coordinator/counselor for the Student
Support Services Division in 2008.

Johnson holds an M.A. in counseling from Webster University and a B.A. in psychology from Clemson University.

She resides in Anderson with her husband and two sons.

Hulehan joined the College in 2013. As program director, he built the Automotive Technology program and developed the complete associate degree curriculum, embedding a variety of stackable certificates. He created real-world learning experiences for students by implementing a fully-functioning automotive shop for hands-on training. He has developed relationships and partnered with local automotive industry leaders to improve program learning outcomes and create work-based learning opportunities for students.

He holds an associate degree in automotive and diesel technology from Bob Jones University and is an ASE Master Certified Technician. Before coming to Tri-County, he worked in the field for more than 10 years in a variety of roles at small, locally-owned automotive shops like Mauldin Road Tire and Service and large dealerships, such as Benson Chrysler Dodge and Jeep, CarMax and Upcountry Ford. He and his wife, Jennifer, live in Simpsonville.

Morrissette joined the College in 2016. In addition to developing student programs and events that develop 21st century skills; she serves as the advisor to Student Government Association and the National Society of Leadership and Success. Since 2017 she has been an adjunct instructor for college skills classes,

Prior to joining Tri-County, she was director of student life at Lake Land College in Mattoon, Illinois, for three years.

She earned a B.A. in history from Worcester State College and an M.S. in college student affairs from Eastern Illinois University.

She and her husband, Doug Trent, have two children and they reside in Anderson.
