Three Spartanburg engineers honored in national New Faces of Engineering program

February 15, 2010

SPARTANBURG, SC –  February 15, 2010 – Three young professionals from CH2M HILL’s Spartanburg office have been honored in the New Faces of Engineering program sponsored by the Engineers Week Foundation in celebration of the accomplishments of outstanding young engineers. Scott Bartlett, P.E. is a finalist with the Project Management Institute, Lauren Jackson is a semi-finalist with the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and Ryan Acierno is a semi-finalist with Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

The honorees in this national program are the “best of the best”—the next generation of engineers whose innovation, leadership and commitment to excellence are helping to better our world and inspire young people to consider a career in engineering. Honorees will be recognized as part of Engineers Week, February 14-20.

“These honorees exemplify CH2M HILL’s values of client service with a strong focus on safety and sustainability and giving back to our communities and profession,” says Lee McIntire, CH2M HILL CEO. “We are very proud of all 41 of CH2M HILL’s New Faces of Engineering nominees. Their passion, commitment, and leadership represent us well in the quest to inspire a future generation of engineering talent.”

Bartlett, a mechanical engineer in the firm’s industrial and advanced technology group in Spartanburg, S.C., has designed and implemented capital improvement projects for small and large industrial facilities. Currently, he is involved in the detail design of a shipbuilding facility and for a high-performance fibers plant. He is also providing detailed construction drawings for a steam condensate recovery system for a leading manufacturer. This project will greatly reduce the plant’s energy consumption, and air and water emissions. Bartlett obtained his P.E. registration, Lean Manufacturing certification and is preparing for LEED Certification. Active in the community, he participates in local office events for Relay for Life benefitting the American Cancer Society and coaches a youth soccer team.

Inspired to become an engineer by her father, also a chemical engineer, Jackson enjoys applying the engineering equations she learned in school in her daily job and then being able to see the final product of her work when a project is completed. Her project work includes a plant that will convert molasses to ethanol for fuel and a project that will create polymer for green carpet out of corn syrup rather than the conventional petrochemical process.

As a LEED accredited professional, Acierno contributed his LEED knowledge to a large Photovoltaic manufacturing plant in New Mexico by providing design and on-site construction support. He is known for his commitment to continually improving his engineering and safety skills to better help his colleagues, clients, and CH2M HILL. Acierno is active in the community and volunteers with the Boy Scouts to help scouts earn their engineers’ badge and with the local Relay for Life events to benefit the American Cancer Society.

During Engineers Week employee volunteers from more than 50 CH2M HILL offices across North America will participate in local outreach events to give classroom presentations, lead students in hands-on engineering activities, judge science fairs and MATHCOUNTS competitions, and take students on project site tours to increase understanding of and excitement about engineering.
