Touchdown Club Names Jordan Roberts of Laurens District High School Player of the Week
September 19, 2022The Laurens County Touchdown Club is proud to announce that for games played on September 16th, the Player of the week is Senior Jordan Roberts of Laurens District High School.
Roberts is a senior linebacker, running back and team leader for the Laurens District High School Raiders as they defeated Union County by a score of 44 – 14 as Roberts lead a defensive and offensive charge to notch the win for the Raiders.
Roberts had twelve tackles on the night and one interception return for a touchdown. He and the Raiders made an opening statement early in the 1st period as he intercepted a pass and returned it 20 yards for a TD on the 3rd play of the game returning it all the way to the end zone. Additionally, Roberts had three carries on offense for 50 yards and a touchdown. Roberts scored from 25 yards to pay dirt for his second TD of the night. Roberts scored his 3rd TD in the last two games played as well.
Head Coach Daryl Smith states “Roberts is a complete linebacker. He plays the run and pass equally well. He is a physical tackler and is a good tackler in the open field. This week he had a few carries at running back and showed his athleticism with the ball. He also works hard in the weight room and is a great leader on and off the field.”
The Laurens County Touchdown Club will honor Roberts on September 22nd at the third Touchdown Club meeting of the year. The meeting will be at noon at The Ridge in Laurens. Player of the Week awards this year are presented by Farm Bureau Insurance of Laurens County.
The September 22 meeting will feature the newly inducted Laurens County Sports Hall of Fame member Coach Shell Dula. Coach Dula is currently the Executive Director of the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association.
The Laurens County Touchdown Club meets every other Thursday throughout the football season at The Ridge located in Laurens at 301 Exchange Road and the public is invited. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $15. All meetings are at Noon.
