Town of Swansea receives funding for new waterlines

June 28, 2017

Swansea elected officials thank Senator Nikki Setzler for Assisting Citizens With a Need that Should Sustain the water lines for the next 80 years.

MPA Strategies is thrilled to announce that our client, the Town of Swansea has received the Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA) grant worth $498,500 towards improvements of the town’s deteriorating water system. The grant funding will go towards a project replacing transit water main pipes and service line taps that are directly attached. Over 13,000 linear feet of PVC-C900 pipe will be engineered and constructed, retaining a useful life of approximately 80 years.

The pipes to be replaced serve as the town’s main trunk lines transporting water to all in-town citizens as well as schools and a medical center.  The service area affected by this project includes the following roads running through town: East 2nd Street, Spring Street, South Brecon Avenue, West 5th Street, East 5th Street, Redmond Hill Rd, and Ezra Jumper Rd.  The Town anticipates the project completing in November of 2018.  A press conference with Swansea Mayor Ray Spires and Senator Nikki Setzler was held at Swansea Town Hall this past Tuesday, June 20th.

“This much-needed grant means so much to all of our citizens and is a huge step in our project to making our water safer.  It’s important to us to keep costs low to our customers.  Replacing these transite pipes will result in a system-wide impact greatly benefitting the town of Swansea,” stated Mayor Ray Spires.

“It is my pleasure to help and assist the Town of Swansea in pursuing this grant. This project is a long-term investment for the town affecting both residents and businesses, and one that Swansea may not have been able to fund otherwise without the help of the RIA,” says Senator Nikki Setzler.
