Turner Padget’s Cathy Kennedy appointed as ABA Judicial Division liaison to Senior Lawyers Division
September 24, 2025Turner Padget announced that Catherine (Cathy) H. Kennedy has been appointed to serve as the liaison from the Judicial Division of the American Bar Association (ABA) to the Senior Lawyers Division of the ABA. The appointment was made by James Lockemy, former Chief Judge of the South Carolina Court of Appeals, who chairs the Judicial Division this year. In this role, Cathy will work to strengthen collaboration between the two ABA divisions, focusing on initiatives that engage senior lawyers and enhance the judiciary’s connection to the broader legal community.

Cathy is well-known for her pioneering contributions to probate and trust law, as well as her advocacy for reform in South Carolina’s legal system. She previously served as Richland County Probate Judge from 1987 to 1999, where she worked to streamline judicial processes and improve access to justice. She has held numerous leadership roles within the South Carolina Bar, including chairing the task force that recommended revisions to the South Carolina Probate Code and, most recently, as chair of the South Carolina Bar’s Senior Lawyers Division.
