Twelve Laurens County Residents Take Oath of Enlistment at Courthouse Ceremony
December 15, 2025On Thursday, December 4, at 5:15 p.m., the Laurens County Courthouse was the scene of a meaningful public ceremony as twelve young men and women from the Laurens County area took the Oath of Enlistment into the United States Army.
The ceremony was hosted by the Laurens County Veterans Affairs Office in partnership with the Greenville U.S. Army Recruiting Unit and was open to the public. Family members, boyfriends, girlfriends, neighbors, and friends filled the courthouse in support of the enlistees and their commitment to serve the nation.
Also in attendance were members of Laurens County Council, representatives of the Laurens County Veterans Affairs Hall of Heroes Board, and veterans from American Legion Post 56 in Clinton, reflecting the strong community support surrounding the event.
Laurens County Veterans Service Officer Carey Bolt opened the ceremony by welcoming attendees and introducing special guests before turning the program over to Capt. Edwards of the U.S. Army Recruiting Office. Capt. Edwards and his recruiting staff administered the Oath of Enlistment and presented each new soldier with their first set of dog tags.
A standing ovation followed the oath, as those in attendance expressed appreciation for the service and sacrifice the new enlistees have committed themselves to.
“These young men and women represent the very best of Laurens County,” said Bolt. “Their willingness to step forward and serve speaks volumes about their character, and our community is proud to stand behind them today and in the years ahead.”
Following the formal ceremony, Bolt invited attendees to tour the courthouse and view the Veterans Hall of Heroes display. The tour emphasized Laurens County’s commitment to honoring those who have served and reminded the new enlistees that their service, too, may one day be recognized as part of the county’s military history.
The ceremony served as a powerful reminder of the enduring tradition of service within Laurens County and the strong support shown to those who answer the call to serve.
