Two Clinton Middle School students recognized as SC Junior Scholars
March 5, 2025Laurens County School District 56 and Clinton Middle School are proud to announce the recognition of two current 8th graders as South Carolina Junior Scholars.
The South Carolina Junior Scholars Program was developed by the South Carolina Department of Education to reflect the statewide effort to improve education in South Carolina and to provide for the needs of students possessing exceptional academic talent. The purpose of the program is to identify these students and to provide opportunities that will facilitate their intellectual growth, broaden their individual interests, and promote their scholastic achievement. Students who qualify for this special recognition receive an Award of Merit certificate and a Junior Scholar bumper sticker from the South Carolina Department of Education.
Clinton Middle School had two students earn this recognition–Emily Lawson and Nathan Wyatt. Director of Secondary Education, Josie Kate Haupfear, says, “We are very proud of the hard work and effort demonstrated by these two students! Earning this recognition is very prestigious. Congratulations to these two students and their families.”
These students are also invited to attend summer opportunities at participating South Carolina colleges, universities, and the Governor’s School for Science and Math. In order to be recognized, students must be an 8th graders and score a minimum of 550 on the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing subtests of the PSAT/NMSQT and score a minimum of 530 on the Math subtest of the PSAT/NMSQT.
