Two Earthquakes Recorded Just Days Apart in Laurens and Greenwood Counties
October 13, 2024In the early morning of October 11, 2024, a 2.3 magnitude earthquake struck Laurens County, South Carolina, at 1:19 a.m. The quake’s epicenter was located about 5 miles north of Clinton, 3 kilometers NNW of Coronaca, and had a shallow depth of 2.5 kilometers. Despite its small size, residents across the area reported feeling the tremor, though no injuries or significant damage have been recorded. Earthquakes of this magnitude are not uncommon in the region, which has experienced similar seismic activity in the past.
Just two days later, a second earthquake occurred nearby in Greenwood County. This 2.12 magnitude quake hit at 9:06 a.m. on October 13, 2024, with its epicenter located 3 kilometers NNW of Coronaca.
