Two Guild members present exhibit at Chapman Cultural Center

Local artists Larry Mauldin and Carol Feitel have a two-person show — Painting The American Landscape — in Artists’ Guild of Spartanburg Gallery at Chapman Cultural Center for the month of May. An opening reception will be held Saturday, May 7, 6-8 p.m. And, another reception will be held during ArtWalk, Thursday, May 19, 6-8 p.m. The exhibit can be seen at no charge Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays, 1-5 p.m. The exhibit’s last viewing day will be Thursday, May 26.

Feitel grew up in Nashville, Tenn. She earned a degree in English with a minor in Art History from Newcomb College of Tulane University. A longtime resident of Spartanburg, she has studied watercolor painting for years with several gifted teachers at Spartanburg Art Museum. She served on the Museum’s board of trustees for many years and is a longtime member of Artist’ Guild of Spartanburg. Feitel has shown in the South Carolina Watercolor Society Annual Juried Exhibition. A number of master teachers and watercolorists have profoundly influenced Feitel’s work, including Ralph Smith with whom she attended workshops in Maine, Arizona, New Mexico, and North Carolina. She has also studied with Cheng-Khee Chee at Kanuga in Hendersonville, NC.

Mauldin is a self-taught artist with a studio in Roebuck, SC. Mauldin has served as president of Artists’ Guild of Spartanburg, as well as The South Carolina Watercolor Society. He has been featured in Watercolor Magic Magazine and Watercolor instructional books. Mauldin has one painting in Chapman Cultural Center’s permanent collection and international collections. Main influences in his work came from Andrew Wythe and Edward Hopper.
