Longtime friends, Ariail and Scully are residents of Camden where they are considered local celebrities. Ariail, known for his celebrated political cartoons, and Scully as the former mayor of Camden. The exhibition developed from the idea of celebrating their friendship and encouraging each other to create new works. Each believed, as a bonus, it would be fun.
The exhibition reflects the different perspectives from each artist in presentation, medium, and technique. Ariail’s work is a type of realism while Scully’s is more expressionistic with vibrant layered colors and brush strokes. Scully says, “Our styles are complimentary insofar as we both are responding to the natural world around us. Robert sees the majesty of the land and I am a colorist.”
Ariail states, “At this point, I’m not trying to convey any particular message through my paintings – just trying to interpret what I see in a manner that I hope is pleasing. I get great satisfaction in painting, and I just want to share my work with a wider audience. I hope they will like it.”
