Two Richland Two principals earn top recognition

Richland School District Two announced that Teresa Mingo, principal of Longleaf Middle School, and Matt Sherman, principal of Blythewood High School, have been named the 2025 Middle Level Principal of the Year and Secondary Principal of the Year, respectively, by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA). This recognition marks the third consecutive year Richland Two has been home to a SCASA Principal of the Year.

Celebrating Leadership Excellence

Matt Sherman

Matt Sherman has continued to demonstrate outstanding leadership and dedication to education since becoming principal of Blythewood High School in 2018. Sherman began his career in Richland Two 18 years ago as a special education teacher at Ridge View High School, where he earned Teacher of the Year honors and chaired the special education department. His tenure includes serving as a transition specialist, during which he secured a $129,000 Competitive Employment Training Grant.

Before becoming principal, Sherman served as an assistant principal for seven years at schools including Round Top Elementary and Blythewood High, as well as an assistant administrator at Blythewood High. Under his leadership, Blythewood High has continued its tradition of excellence in academics, athletics, and student engagement.

Sherman holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Presbyterian College and a Master of Educational Administration from the University of South Carolina. He is certified in both elementary and secondary administration and earned National Board Certification in 2005. He is an active member of SCASA, reflecting his commitment to advancing educational leadership statewide.

Teresa Boyd

Teresa Mingo has been the principal of Longleaf Middle School since 2020, following her extensive service as an assistant principal at multiple schools in Richland Two, including Longleaf, Muller Road Middle, and Blythewood Middle. Her background as a mathematics teacher, guidance counselor, and dean of students has equipped her with a multifaceted perspective on student success.

Mingo began her educational career in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and has continuously demonstrated a passion for creating environments where students and staff thrive. Since assuming her leadership role at Longleaf Middle, she has been instrumental in implementing innovative programs and fostering a culture of academic excellence and inclusivity.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and a Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling from Winthrop University, as well as a Master of Education and Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from the University of South Carolina. Mingo is also a proud mother to her son, Isaiah Boyd III, and a new daughter-in-law, Jennifer.
