U.S. Army Colonel, alumnus to address veterans

An alumnus of the university, who serves as a colonel in the U.S. Army, will serve as the keynote speaker for SC State University’s annual Veterans Day Recognition Program, which will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9, in the Martin Luther King Jr. Auditorium.
The Veterans Day Recognition Program honors the courage and sacrifices made by the men and women in all branches of the armed forces. Lead by the SC State Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Bulldog Battalion, the program will begin with a video tribute, followed by Posting of the Colors. A candle lighting and wreath ceremony will be held, along with the traditional playing of “Taps.”
Col. Thomas Hundley, ’93, has been selected to keynote the program. He has held many key leadership positions in the U.S. Army, including deputy surgeon, director of Logistics and company commander.
Hundley has completed multiple combat tours during the War on Terrorism and has served during Operation Freedom Sentinel in Kuwait.
For his courageous leadership and devotion to servitude, he has been awarded the Bronze Star, Distinguished Meritorious Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Expert Field Medical Badge, Parachutist Badge and various other awards.
Among his vast accomplishments, Hundley was inducted into the Army Medical Department (AMEDD) Regiment’s Order of Medical Military Merit in 2011, and was recently inducted into SC State’s ROTC Hall of Fame.
Hundley received his military commission from SC State University, into the Medical Services Corps branch. He also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from SC State.
Additionally, he holds a Master of Science in logistics management from the Florida Institute of Technology, and is a graduate of AMEDD courses and the Combined Arms and Services Staff School. Hundley has also completed courses in Intermediate Level Education and Logistics Executive Development.
Colonel is currently the assistant chief of staff of Logistics, and is the published author of the highly requested book, “Fit for the King: God’s Plan for Weight Loss and Total Health.”
He is the father of two girls, Peyton and Erin.
