United Community Bank announced as presenting sponsor for Greenville Tech Foundation Workforce Development Salute

October 27, 2015

GREENVILLE, SC –  Greenville Tech Foundation announced today that United Community Bank will be the presenting sponsor for the upcoming Workforce Development Salute. The Foundation will host internationally renowned automotive executive Carlos Ghosn as the keynote speaker at its signature fundraiser on Nov. 16, 2015. More than 700 attendees are registered for the event, which will be the largest audience for a Foundation event.

“At United Community Bank, we recognize the vital role that Greenville Technical College plays in the economic growth and prosperity of this community,” said Lynn Harton, president and chief operating officer of United Community Bank. “We are pleased to contribute to helping prepare the Upstate’s workforce for the evolving employment needs of our business community. Throughout our 65-year history, United has been committed to strengthening the communities we serve, and we are glad to continue that tradition through our support of the Workforce Development Salute.”

United Community Bank has recently completed the purchase of Greenville-based The Palmetto Bank. Sam Erwin, former CEO of Palmetto and now CEO of South Carolina for United Community Bank, serves as vice chairman of the Greenville Tech Foundation. “I have had the great opportunity to see first-hand the enormous impact that the Foundation has on students who receive scholarships or support, and am proud that United Community Bank can contribute to continuing that tradition.”

“We are very grateful to receive the support of United Community Bank,” said Bob Howard, president of Greenville Tech Foundation. “Through this partnership, United has demonstrated a deep commitment to the continued growth of our workforce in the Greenville community. Our sponsors enable us to provide scholarships for 350 students each year and support all 12,000 Greenville Tech students by funding new equipment, technology and other important needs.”

The Greenville Tech Foundation supports Greenville Technical College as it builds programs to educate and train the new workforce in the Upstate. In previous years, the Foundation has celebrated entrepreneurs with an annual gala. This year, the Foundation restructured its signature event to focus on the importance of developing a skilled labor pool and the event will be called the Workforce Development Salute. Internationally recognized business leader Carlos Ghosn will be keynote speaker. Mr. Ghosn is the Chairman and CEO of the Renault-Nissan Alliance, one of the world’s largest automotive groups. Before joining Nissan in 1999, Mr. Ghosn served as chairman and chief executive officer at Michelin North America from 1989 to 1996 and lived in Greenville during that time.

The Workforce Development Salute will be held on November 16, 2015 at 6 p.m. at the TD Convention Center.
