United Way of the Midlands announces new flood recovery initiative, aims to triple number of homes repaired in the next year

Today United Way of the Midlands announced a new initiative, Restoring Hope, to bolster the ongoing flood recovery work in the Midlands. Restoring Hope aims to raise $2 million dollars and repair 250 flood-damaged homes in the next year through private community resources.
Since the flooding, United Way has led the Midlands Flood Recovery Group (MFRG), a team of more than 45 local organizations that are on the front lines of flood rebuild and repair projects in the Midlands.
To date, the MFRG has made repairs to 86 flood-damaged homes in Richland and Lexington counties.
With more than 1,200 households still waiting for rebuild assistance in Richland and Lexington counties, Restoring Hope will accelerate the rebuild process by leveraging community resources and volunteers.
“In the days following the flood, our community displayed overwhelming generosity as volunteers and donors,” said Mac Bennett, United Way president and CEO. “We must continue this important work, so that we will not only commemorate this historic event but also celebrate our community’s ability to rise up and help those in need.
