United Way of the Midlands hosts school supply drive for families affected by Fairfield County nuclear site closure

United Way of the Midlands in partnership with the Fairfield County Chamber of Commerce is collecting school supply donations for children of families affected by the recent layoffs at the nuclear facility in Fairfield County.

Donations are being collected at four sites throughout the Midlands including:

  • United Way of the Midlands – 1818 Blanding Street, Columbia, SC 29201
  • Fairfield Chamber of Commerce – 120 N Congress St, Winnsboro, SC 29180
  • Parke-Sterling Bank – 801 US-321 Bypass, Winnsboro, SC 29180
  • Ruff Hardware – 165 N Palmer St, Ridgeway, SC 29130

Monetary donations can also be contributed to purchase school supplies at uway.org. All donations will be collected through Aug. 31.

“When something this significant affects part of our community, in affects our entire community,” said Sara Fawcett, President and CEO of United Way of the Midlands. “We wanted to provide a way for everyone in the Midlands to get involved and give back to these families who’ve been affected in some way.”
