United Way of the Midlands invests $300,000 into new housing rebuild and repair initiatives

United Way of the Midlands is investing $300,000 in new housing rebuild and repair initiatives for flood damaged homes throughout the Midlands. Funds will be distributed to non-profit organizations and Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (VOADs) with focused plans on rebuilding the Midlands via a Request for Proposal (RFP) grant process.
RFP grantees will provide housing repair resources for low to moderate income residents of Richland and Lexington counties who were affected by flood or storm damage. Grantees must also leverage donated, discounted and volunteer labor and services. Funds will not be granted to individual homeowners.
The average award range to organizations is expected to be $10,000 to $50,000. Grants will be awarded for the spending period March 1 to December 31, 2016.
This new funding is in addition to United Way’s existing investments of $250,000 for initial emergency housing, financial assistance and rebuild work. Funding for this RFP is made possible by donations made to United Way’s Flood Relief Fund
