University’s School of Music to present fall wind ensemble concert

The University of South Carolina’s School of Music will present its Fall Wind Ensemble concert at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at the Koger Center for the Arts. 

Wind Ensemble I will be conducted by James K. Copenhaver, and Wind Ensemble II will be conducted by Rebecca L. Phillips. Featured selections include “Symphony in B flat” by Paul Hindemith, which is a band favorite. Other selections include “Fantasia in G Major” by J.S. Bach, “Scenes from ‘The Louvre’” by Norman Dello Joio, and “Blue Shades” by Frank Ticheli.  

Copenhaver is director of bands and professor of music at the university. He conducts the University Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band and teaches undergraduate and graduate classes in wind instrument techniques. 

Phillips is in her second year as associate director of bands and assistant professor at the university. She conducts the USC Concert Band, teaches graduate and undergraduate instrumental conducting, supervises student teachers and serves as director of the USC Summer Band camps.
