Students culminate a year of fundraising to Build Brighter Days for Midlands families
University of South Carolina Dance Marathon (USCDM) celebrated the impact of the student-led movement for children’s health at its annual Main Event on Saturday, February 21 at the Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center.
More than 1,000 students hit the dance floor to dance, hear from guest speakers, sell merchandise and raise funds for Prisma Health Children’s Hospital – Midlands. The big event ended with the much-anticipated final flip – when students unveiled that they raised more than $765,000.
Participants also had the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities led by Child Life specialists, giving students a glimpse into the daily experiences of patients at Children’s Hospital. These activities highlighted how Child Life services provide comfort, normalcy and emotional support for children undergoing treatment.
“The most important thing that I have gained from leading USCDM this year has been the ability to lead with empathy and purpose, learning not only how to support and uplift others, but also discovering my own capacity for growth, resilience and meaningful impact,” said Izzy Yoos, Dance Marathon President for the 2025-2026 year.
USCDM is the largest student-run philanthropic organization in South Carolina and partners with Children’s Miracle Network. Funds raised help provide patients and families with resources for treatment and emotional well-being, ensuring that they have the best experience possible while in the hospital.
Children’s health is an issue that shapes the future of society, and children’s hospitals play a vital role in ensuring that future is healthy and hopeful. While USCDM makes a direct impact within the Midlands community, the work supported through Children’s Hospital extends far beyond individual patients and families, thus strengthening the well-being of generations to come.
For 28 years, USCDM has united students around one mission: to change the future of children’s health. This year’s campaign, “Building Brighter Days,” reflects the belief that meaningful change is built step by step. Every action taken; every miracle story shared; and every dollar raised serve as a building block in creating a stronger foundation for brighter days ahead for Miracle Kids and their families. Together, these efforts ensure that the impact of today’s work continues to shape healthier tomorrows.
