UofSC Campus Update–Hurricane Dorian

September 2, 2019

In consultation with State and County emergency officials, the University of South Carolina plans to remain open this week and classes will meet as scheduled. The current forecast for Columbia calls for limited rainfall and wind associated with Hurricane Dorian.

Safety is a primary concern of the university, and the decision to remain open is based upon the best information available. Note: If conditions or the forecast should worsen, the university will adjust plans accordingly. In the meantime, any updates will be posted at www.sc.edu/weather, on social media and Carolina Alert. Be sure to visit the Carolina Alert website to register for weather alerts, follow on social media, and to receive emergency text messages and other public safety announcements.

Normal campus services will remain available, including dining, health services and access to the library and recreational facilities. Columbia and the Midlands will likely see an increase in visitors and traffic as a result of the coastal evacuation, so students, faculty and staff are reminded to please allow for additional travel time.
