Upcoming Historical Lecture: Brigadier General James Williams – The Most Ardent Patriot in Laurens County

On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at 7:00 p.m., the Laurens County Museum will host renowned historian and battlefield preservationist Durant Ashmore as he delivers a compelling continuation of his lecture series, focusing on Brigadier General James Williams, one of Laurens County’s most ardent patriots during the American Revolution. This event will be held at the Museum, 116 South Public Square, Laurens.

Ashmore’s lecture will explore the significance of Fort Williams, a critical site during the Revolutionary War and regarded as the most contested fort in America. Continuing from his previous discussion, Ashmore will highlight the life and legacy of Brigadier General Williams, who commanded the Little River Regiment of the South Carolina Militia. Williams is remembered for his unwavering dedication to the Patriot cause and for his bravery, which earned him the deep respect of his men.

This event is free for members of the Laurens County Museum and attendees aged 18 and under. A suggested donation of $5 is encouraged for others.
