USC’s 38th Annual Economic Outlook  Conference to tackle forecast, opportunity zones and wages Dec. 4

The Darla Moore School of Business will hold its 38th Annual Economic Outlook Conference (EOC) Tuesday, Dec. 4 at the University of South Carolina.

The EOC is the state’s premier economic event for business and government leaders. This year’s conference will take place 11:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. in the university’s Alumni Center, located at 900 Senate St.

Director of Research Doug Woodward will address the impact of tariffs and trade wars on South Carolina and provide the U.S. economic outlook. Economist Joseph Von Nessen will provide the 2019 economic forecast for the state, which will detail statewide impacts and include a breakdown by region for anticipated job growth, personal income and industry sectors. He also will address wages and whether increases can be expected after a 10-year economic expansion.

A highlight of the conference will be a panel discussion on “opportunity zones,” which are investments in real estate and business that may qualify for significant federal tax incentives. Moderated by Jeanne Milliken Bonds of the Federal Reserve Bank, the panel will feature S.C. Treasurer Curtis Loftis, former Gov. Jim Hodges and Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin.

Registration is online and tickets cost $75, which includes a lunch and networking reception. A detailed agenda for the EOC is available on the Moore School website.
