USC alumni to head to Statehouse Jan. 25 for Carolina Day

Support for higher education is a vital to securing a strong economic future for South Carolina and improving the lives of all its residents.
That’s the message alumni, students and supporters from the university’s eight campuses will take to the Statehouse Wednesday, Jan. 25 when they meet with elected officials from their respective districts.
They will convey how each campus improves the health and prosperity of communities and adds to the quality of life through myriad cultural, educational and athletic offerings.
Advocates can add their voice by registering online to participate. Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m. at the alumni center, followed by visits with legislators at their Statehouse offices and lunch at the alumni center with President Harris Pastides at 12:30 p.m. Lunch will be followed by a media briefing, campus displays and networking in the Statehouse lobby until 3 p.m. There is an $18 registration fee to defray the cost of the meal. For ease, a Carolina shuttle will transport participants.
Jack Claypoole, executive director of My Carolina, says that having advocates from business, health, service and industry sectors make clear the impact that the university system has on the state and its future.
“As Gamecock alumni, we are grateful for how our alma mater has prepared us to effectively serve our respective communities. We look forward to sharing our passion for Carolina specifically, and higher education in general, during Carolina Day 2017,” Claypoole said.
The annual Carolina Day at the Statehouse is organized by My Carolina Alumni Association and held at the alumni center, located steps away at Senate and Lincoln streets. The University of South Carolina serves all 46 counties through its eight campuses and online programs and has approximately 300,000 alumni.
