USC CIC to host IBM watsonx Workshop and Competition

September 11, 2024

The University of South Carolina College of Information and Communications (CIC) invites college and university students from across South Carolina to participate in the IBM watsonx Workshop and Competition on Saturday, September 28.

Hosted on USC’s main campus, the half-day workshop and competition inspires creativity and deepens AI knowledge among participants. The event will provide a unique opportunity for participants to engage with the watsonX platform, IBM’s latest innovation in AI and data technologies. Students will register as individuals and will be placed on a competition team by IBM staff. The top three teams will receive team prizes of $10,000 for first place, $5,000 for second place and $2,500 for third place.

As part of this Call for Code at IBM experience, university students will be introduced to the Call for Code campus program and the Global Challenge, as an opportunity to grow their AI skills, access new free watsonx courses from IBM to propel their career goals and compete for prizes by turning their bright ideas into practical and impactful solutions to help local communities.

The IBM watsonx Workshop and Competition is open to students at all colleges and universities throughout South Carolina. Pre-registration is required to attend, and spaces are limited. To register, visit https://callforcode.skillsnetwork.site/events/usc-workshop-sept2024.

USC CIC is hosting the watsonx workshop and competition in its ongoing effort to promote AI proficiency among CIC students, faculty and throughout the USC ecosystem. About the College

The College of Information and Communications is fearlessly first at adopting, teaching and investigating AI and other emerging information technologies, because it leans into the intersection of its two schools—information science and communication. As a result, CIC students gain a competitive workforce advantage by learning how to gather and analyze data, and to responsibly create and share content using the latest tools and practices.
