USC Law School honors Nelson Mullins’ David Wilkins with Compleat Lawyer award

The University of South Carolina School of Law has honored David H. Wilkins, a partner in Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP’s Greenville office, with a Compleat Lawyer award. He received the award in the Platinum category for 31 years or more of service to the profession and community.
Ambassador Wilkins earned his Juris Doctor from USC’s School of Law in 1971. He chairs Nelson Mullins’ Public Policy and International Law practice group with a special focus on U.S.-Canada interests. He served as U.S. ambassador to Canada from June 2005 to January 2009. Since returning home from Canada, Ambassador Wilkins spent six years chairing the Clemson University Board of Trustees and remains an active member of that board. First elected in 1980, Ambassador Wilkins served 25 years in the S.C. House of Representatives. He was elected speaker in 1994 – a position he held for 11 years.
The Compleat Lawyer Awards were established in 1992 by the University of South Carolina Law School Alumni Council (formerly the Alumni Association) to recognize alumni for outstanding civic and professional accomplishments. Each year the Council recognizes up to nine outstanding alumni at the Compleat Lawyer Awards Dinner. Nominees are individuals who have made significant contributions to the legal profession and exemplify the highest standard of professional competence, ethics, and integrity, according to the university.
