USC Tourism innovation and entrepreneurship conference opens Monday

COLUMBIA, SC – The second annual International Executive Forum on Tourism and Innovation will be in Columbia Aug. 3-4. Presentations by local and international leaders and innovators will look at new technologies and the role of entrepreneurship and innovation within the tourism and hospitality industry in the Americas, the Caribbean and globally.

UofSC grads launch opera camp for at-risk youth through July 31

UofSC music graduates Brenton O’Hara and Kate McKinney are using their $20,000 winnings from the university’s The Proving Ground entrepreneurial competition to launch an opera camp for at-risk youth July 20 – 31 in Columbia. The camp, which is tuition-free for students age 12-18, uses  opera to teach more than a dozen life skills, combining music with team-building, yoga, wellness and leadership. The camp will take place 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 3200 Trenholm Road, and culminate with a performance of a children’s opera at 7 p.m., July 31, at the Columbia Music Festival Association at 914 Pulaski St.
