USC Upstate Foundation Names Appoints Six New Members to Board of Directors
June 30, 2014SPARTANBURG, SC – The University of South Carolina Upstate Foundation announced Thursday the appointment of six new members to the Board of Directors. All will begin their new terms July 1.
“These individuals come from diverse backgrounds but share a common interest and commitment to the vital role that USC Upstate plays in the quality of life in our local communities,” said Steve Harvey, USC Upstate Foundation Board President. “I look forward to working with this group as we help our university grow and meet the ever-increasing needs of the community.”
New members of the board include: Vollie C. “Vic” Bailey, III, of Spartanburg; Matthew Cash of Cowpens, Chris Crowley, Chris Dorrance, Richard “Butch” Genoble, and D. Ralph Settle, II, all of Spartanburg.
Bailey is president of Vic Bailey Automotive. He received his bachelor’s degree in political science from The Citadel in 1976 and completed his Juris doctorate at Mississippi College School of Law in 1980. He is a member of First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg where he has served as a deacon, elder and Stephen Minister. He has served on a variety of community boards to include the Better Business Bureau of the Foothills, United Way, Spartanburg Regional Board of Visitors, Spartanburg Chamber of Commerce Wofford Parents Council, and Spartanburg Day School. He is married to the former Lynn Neely of Spartanburg and has three children, Vic, Leslie and Neely.
Cash is a 2006 graduate of USC Upstate and serves as the vice chair of the USC Upstate Alumni Association Board of Directors. He is a coordinator of recruitment at USC Beaufort. He currently serves as vice chair of the Spartanburg Young Professionals, chapter advisor for University Relations for the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity at USC Upstate, a member of the Ancient Free Masons of South Carolina and is a member of the South Carolina Planning Committee for the Carolinas Association of Collegiate Registrars an Admission Officers.
Crowley is a 2011 graduate of USC Upstate and stepped up to lead the University’s $50 million Capital Campaign in 2012. Crowley spent more than 23 years operating Cherokee Textiles with 10 of those years as its CEO. He was recognized USC Upstate’s 2013 Distinguished Alumni of the Year in December. In addition to his work with USC Upstate, Crowley led the capital campaign for the construction of St. Paul’s Catholic Church and Spartanburg Day School. He is married to Garrow Crowley and has three children, Kathleen, Mark and Elsa Crowley.
Dorrance is a former headmaster of Spartanburg Day School. A native of Rochester, N.Y., graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in 1967 and received his bachelor’s degree in history from Amherst College in 1971. Later he would earn his master’s degree in Teaching from Reed College. His 41-year career in teaching, coaching and administration has included positions at five independent schools in the mid-Atlantic, midwest, and south. He is married to Alice Dorrance and has two children.
Genoble works in the real estate division of Gibbs International. A native of Union, he attended the University of South Carolina on a football scholarship and then completed his bachelor’s degree in business and economics at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn, in 1971. Genoble recently was inducted into the Union High School Hall of Fame, where he lettered in basketball, baseball, football and golf. He is a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg. He is married to the former Janet Cash and has two sons and two grandchildren.
Settle works with Johnson Development Associates in efforts to revitalize downtown Spartanburg. Prior to joining Johnson Development, he worked a real estate finance manager for OTO Development and at Upstate Forever. He received his bachelor’s degree in business economics at Wofford College and his master’s of real estate development at Clemson University. He has served on the Urban Land Institute Upstate SC Executive Committee and is a graduate of Leadership Spartanburg’s Class of 2014. He is active in Spartanburg Young Professionals, Leadership Spartanburg Alumni Association, USC Upstate Center for Innovation and Business Engagement.
