Verdin’s Too Featured at The Brew
May 24, 2023The Laurens County Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Main Street Laurens hosted another edition of The Brew last week.
This edition of The Brew was hosted by and featured Kim Verdin, owner of Verdin’s Too in Laurens (125 E. Laurens Street).
“Our recent meeting of The Brew Laurens County at Verdin’s Too was a resounding success. It is truly inspiring to witness the ongoing growth of this initiative and how it continues to support and benefit our local business community. The positive impact it has is evident, and we are excited to see it thrive even more in the future,” Graysen Martin, Communications and Marketing Coordinator.
With the open-air nursery as the backdrop for the meeting, local business owners gathered for coffee and conversation. Following the networking, Kim Verdin addressed the group.
Verdin provided some history into the building and the growth of their business from Verdin’s Feed and Seed and the addition of the open-air nursery that is Verdin’s Too.
It wasn’t planned to be without a roof but in refurbishing the abandoned building they found that the roof was too far gone to keep. Thinking out of the box, Verdin went in a new direction and decided on no roof.
The open-air building has advantages and challenges. The plants in the store are arranged according to the need for sun or shade. The sails in the open area provided an artistic flair to the garden. The gift store portion of the shop is in the back of the store where there is a roof.
“There is such a sense of community here,” said Verdin. “We enjoy having people come in just to window shop or share a story from the past.”
In recent years Verdin’s has hosted “Music in the Garden” as an opportunity for the community to come and enjoy nature and music. These events are free and open to the public. Other classes about cooking with herbs have been successful and more are planned for the future.
Verdin says that many people come in for the first time because they drive by and see the plants outside. If you haven’t been to Verdin’s Too, well you’re missing out on one of the prettiest spots in downtown Laurens.
