Verizon Recognizes 29 Community Organizations for Fueling Company’s Charleston Hiring Push

The wireless carrier credits strong partnerships with employment-minded community groups for helping the company reach its goal of 346 hires in 2014.

 

CHARLESTON, SC – Verizon Wireless rolled out the red carpet for 29 Charleston-area organizations Tuesday night at its North Charleston Solutions Center. The 2nd Annual Community Partner Red Carpet Appreciation Dinner recognized the organizations for assisting the company in filling hundreds of jobs in 2014. Verizon officials highlighted the importance of mutually beneficial community partnerships where employment-focused organizations fulfill their mission in helping Charleston residents connect with local companies that are searching for qualified, local talent.

“As a company, we are proud to work with organizations that have a stated goal of helping people find their career of choice,” said Kevin Owens, Verizon’s talent acquisition leader. “At Verizon, we offer career paths for people who are enthusiastic about immersing in the constantly evolving world of wireless communications, and there are so many opportunities for talented people to join our industry. We hired 346 people at our North Charleston Solutions Center in 2014, and we are on pace for another year of robust hiring in 2015.”

At the event, Owens gave special recognition as community partner of the year to SC Works, a statewide organization dedicated to linking job seekers with employers. SC Works regularly teams with Verizon on Charleston area job fairs, interview events and overall career preparation workshops.

Verizon offers competitive compensation and a Total Rewards benefit program that starts day one of training and includes 401(k) savings plan with company matching contributions, medical, vision and dental insurance, an on-site fitness center and health and dependent care spending accounts. Employees are also eligible for up to $8,000 per year in tuition reimbursement.

The community organizations who received recognition at the event included: Center for Women, Charleston County School District, Charleston Southern University, Claflin University, Coastal Carolina University, College of Charleston, SC ESGR, ECPI, El Informidor, Goodwill, ITT Tech, La Universal, Latin Groove, Mag Theater, Miller-Motte, Orangeburg Calhoun Technical College, Operation Palmetto Employment, Palmetto Warrior Connection, SC State University, SC Vocational Rehab, SC Works, Southern Wesleyan University, Tech After 5, The Citadel, Post & Courier, Trident Technical College, VA, Voorhees and DEW.
