New Business Unit to Focus on Design/Installation of Hot Water and HVAC Systems Powered by Solar Energy

SPARTANBURG, SC – August 4, 2010 – Spartanburg-based Waldrop, Inc., an established full-service mechanical contracting firm celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, announces establishment of a third operating division, designated Waldrop Solar Solutions. The Solar Solutions business unit will support Waldrop’s two existing divisions — Waldrop Heating & Air Conditioning, which serves the residential market; and Waldrop Mechanical Services which focuses on the commercial, institutional, industrial and healthcare sectors. Like the firm’s other divisions, Waldrop Solar Solutions will operate throughout South Carolina and western North Carolina.

“Waldrop Solar Solutions will focus entirely on the design and installation of hot water and HVAC systems powered by the use of solar energy, something we have seen an ever-increasing demand for in both the residential and commercial markets,” said Bill Caldwell, president of Waldrop. “Our specialized expertise in solar applications, coupled with our familiarity of LEED requirements and the higher demand for these types of applications, led us to make the strategic decision to fully commit dedicated resources to the Solar Solutions initiative,” Caldwell continued.

Jamie Porterfield will head up Waldrop Solar Solutions as division manager. Porterfield, who has been with Waldrop for more than five years, will be responsible for day-to-day operations.  Gerald Abele has recently joined Waldrop to lead the sales and marketing efforts of this new operating division.  Jon Bradley is responsible for project installation. All three are based at Waldrop’s headquarters facility in Spartanburg. In addition to solar applications, Waldrop also specializes in geothermal installations.

Waldrop, Inc. has received numerous awards for safety and construction excellence. The company is one of only a select few South Carolina HVAC/mechanical contractors consistently featured on the prestigious list of Top 100 Specialty Contractors published annually by Southeast Construction magazine.  In addition to its Spartanburg headquarters, Waldrop has an office in Greenville.
