HARTSVILLE, SC – Walter George has been elected Vice Chair of the Coker College Board of Trustees.

“Coker College is extremely fortunate to have an individual with Walt George’s expertise stepping up to this leadership position at this moment in the College’s history,” said Coker College President Robert Wyatt.

“Over the past few years, Coker has reset the standard for aggressive growth, not only for itself, but I would say for fine independent colleges nationwide. Walt’s insights and competitive drive will be invaluable to us as we commit ourselves to achieving still more growth in the years ahead.” Wyatt said.

George’s term as Chair begins with the annual meeting of the Board of Trustees, Oct. 30-31.

George joined the Board of Trustees in 2010 and has served as Chair of the Promotion and Marketing Committee of the Board since 2012. He succeeds Cindy Hartley, who assumes the position of Chair of the Board, also this month.

Walter and his wife Susan, reside in Fairway, Kan., and are members of Coker College’s Lifetime Giving Society, which honors the College’s most generous donors.

George retired as president of The American Italian Pasta Company and corporate vice president of Ralcorp Holdings in 2013.

He serves on the Board of Old World Spice and Seasoning Company, Vision Bank and The Morris Animal Foundation.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Drury University and a master of business administration from Rockhurst University.
