South Carolina Hospitality Association Launches GoProStart.com

SOUTH CAROLINA – August 25, 2011 – The South Carolina Hospitality Association (SCHA) recently revamped their www.GoProStart.com Web site that supplies students the knowledge to develop a successful career in the field of hospitality.

“As students head back-to-school this fall we want to ensure they are aware of the career paths available in the hospitality field,” said Tom Sponseller, SCHA President.  “In South Carolina hospitality and tourism account for approximately $14 billion dollars in revenue each year.  It is imperative we educate young talented people in this field to retain and grow those dollars in the future.”

GoProStart.com promotes the nationwide two-year ProStart program.  The program brings the restaurant industry to the classroom and gives students the platform to discover new interests and talents and opens doors to fulfilling careers.  The new site is loaded with information about the ProStart curriculum, culinary scholarships, training and inspirational videos.

“I have had many employees come work for me who have been affiliated with the ProStart program,” said Carl Sobocinski, President of Table 301 Restaurant Group and SC Representative of the National Restaurant Association.  “This program truly is essential to the future of our industry in South Carolina.”

With national and local support from industry members, educators, the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation and state restaurant associations, ProStart reaches 90,000 students in nearly every state across the United States.  ProStart alumni enter the workforce prepared for the future and excited to begin their promising careers.

Being in ProStart has helped me decide my future career and helped me get a job in the industry,” said student Jillian Reilly.  “My participation in several ProStart national competitions has taught me to be a leader, think on my feet, and work well under pressure.”

“Students in our state are faced with choosing a career path as early as eighth grade,” said Xavier Meier, SCHA

Education Manager. “GoProStart.com is our tool to provide students direction as they make this choice and move into high school.”
