Weekends Are For Relaxing – Comfortable Styles That Are Perfectly Presentable

The weather is getting cooler and football season is in full swing, which means weekends are taking a more relaxing attitude and lounging around in sweatpants and sweatshirt is becoming more popular.

What if you want to have company over for the big game, or need to make a last minute trip to the grocery store?  While they may not be my number one choices in outfits, here are two loungewear options that are public friendly and still let you lay on the sofa in total comfort and ease:

1.    Loungewear vs. Athletic-wear.  There is a difference between the two, though many people think they are interchangeable.  Just look at the names and purposes of each and you will find the differences.  Athletic-wear is for exercising.  The materials are designed to wick away moisture and sweat and they are very form fitting.  Loungewear is for lounging and tends to be made with softer fabrics with looser cuts.

2.    Modern cut.  Just because loungewear is designed to be comfortable does not mean it is shapeless.  The trend of clothes becoming more fitted and tailored over the past few years has included loungewear.  The construction elements should resemble the same characteristics you look for in other pants and shirts: fitted with straight lines and clearly defined arms and legs.  I am not a huge fan of elastic or drawstrings, but they are highly preferred over super voluminous and shapeless pieces.

3.    Engineered design.  Simple hoodies and sweatshirts have their place, but when your entire outfit is loungewear you need some construction elements to dress it up.  Whether you choose zippers, piping, collars or material there needs to be some element that elevates the piece above the basics to keep the outfit from looking lazy and sloppy.  Use the basic pieces as layers with your other casual outfits.

4.    Neutral color.  The common notion that everything looks more elegant in black is true even here.  Darker, neutral colors just have an air about them that cannot be replicated in neon.  Another added bonus to wearing neutrals is that they go perfectly with your team colors.  Everything coordinates with black and grey.

You can carry this this neutral theme to sneakers as well or opt for a trendy pair in a bright color.  We all know once you’re home the shoes come off anyway.  That’s when comfortable, cushiony socks take the stage.

There comes a time when all you want to do is lounge around the house and relax.  Luckily there is also a range of clothing designed for that very purpose.  Loungewear is comfortable and stylish so you can have guests over or run to the store without the worry of being seen.
